Eternal Thought

The more I try to avoid it, the more I find myself caught,
In the place I can’t get away from, in the simple state of thought.
I sleep so as not to accept it, but it still slips into my dreams.
My books and stories provoke it. There is no escaping it seems.

Fast driving cars, and the money, they can’t distract for very long.
It’s too easy now to remind me. It’s as simple as playing a song.
Ambushed on long lonely walks, until I break down, until I give in,
Even in surrender or resistance, either way I can never win.

Each answer to question just leads me, to a question more profound than the first,
And it seems like it keeps going deeper, I don’t know which could possibly be worse.
Is it true that ignorance is bliss? But discovery too can be grand.
Is it better to not know the question, or to ask and then understand?

It depends on the price you’re willing to pay. It depends on what you desire.
These are the choices that hold you back or challenge you to achieve higher.
The more I try to avoid it, the more I find myself caught.
There are things that are always revealed to me, in the simple state of thought.

I am afraid I am not adequate, and yet I fear my power to achieve.
I am solid in the belief that, I can be anything I believe.
I am tired of questions and answers. Yet I’m revived, and inspired and caught,
In the web of discovery and illusion, in the state of eternal thought.
