Imprisoned Love

What drive is it that burns within, & gives the heart the strength to win?
Conflicting passions both vital in part, fighting within this self same heart.
Love reaching deep, honest and real, a passion more that one can feel,
Beats like a heart, and concurs all, the circumstance that may befall.

This deadly dance, a threatening cost. Both cannot win…both could be lost.
Give all or nothing is the key, both are imprisoned yet both are free.
Breathing in the toxic fumes, both desperate still to consume,
A passion that can’t be explained, both giving love, both feeling pain.

One clings to one, holding her back, from all that calls that pains to lack,
One clings to one, and cannot see, that letting go will set him free.
Two hands encouraged to let go, both desperate hearts resisting so.
One road divides into two…just as it would as they both knew…

What drive is it that burns within, & gives the heart the strength to win?
What causes one to sacrifice, to pay inflicting painful price?
One heart shattered into two, both reaching forth to something new.
And one love remains for all of time, within the prisons of a rhyme.
