Burning

There’s such a deep and rooted darkness that in the world lies.
So much pain and anger that it burns my glancing eyes.
Hate blazes so strong and fast that it catches all things fire,
And quickly eats the soul alive who had vengeful desire.

Images burned to memory, hurts the innocence of those,
Too young to know of anguish, or of vengeance or of foes.
Young birds with desires and sweet hopes of bright tomorrows,
Are spared the self-destruction of the men who feed from sorrows.

Burned away is innocence when remorse is lost,
And never has there been a soul that can afford the cost.
Others weep for the cruelty they see before their eyes,
While others still are starving for the poison found in lies.

There’s such a deep and rooted darkness that in the world lies.
So much pain and anger that it burns my stinging eyes.
I cry for all the innocence of others that was lost.
My tears fall for the foolish men who can’t afford the cost.

I ache for those who lose their hopes and dreams of bright tomorrows,
Because of those who lost their way by drowning in their sorrows.
I pray to God to cleanse this earth of filth and rot and pain,
And give us back our innocence when you come again.
